Schedule a Lesson

Hi! I’m Laurie, and I can help you learn to swim faster and better than you ever imagined.

Total Immersion Workshops

Laurie has coached Total Immersion workshops along the West Coast since 1997, primarily in Portland and the Seattle area, helping hundreds of swimmers learn to swim more efficiently and effortlessly using video analysis and stroke drills to assist participants in improving their swimming technique.

One-on-One Lessons

Laurie coaches swimmers of all ages and abilities. Her specialty is working with triathletes and water-shy adults.

Wherever you are now, swimming with your head out of the water, unwilling to venture into the deep end, limiting yourself to one length at a time, whatever it is, if you want to take the next step, Laurie is here to encourage you on your swimming journey!

Triathlon Prep

Triathlon swimming may be one of the best-kept secrets of having fun in the water . . . you swim easy enough to go the distance with plenty of energy for the bike and run portions, and you get into a good rhythm to swim fast enough to have fun and keep your motivation high!

About Laurie

Hi! I’m Laurie Kilbourn and my professional life is all about swimming. In addition to private lessons and Total Immersion workshops, I coach a competitive swim team, Portland Aquatic Club at the Southwest Portland site.

I’ve spent years in the slow and medium lanes before breaking into the fast lanes, and I know how each speed feels and what it takes to get to the next level.

I regularly compete in local swim meets and events, including Masters Nationals, open-water swims, and beginning in 2010, triathlons. I ran my first marathon in 2012 and hopes to complete a full Iron-distance triathlon one of these days.

My approach to swimming has changed over the years, from the way swim lessons are conducted to the training of top athletes. My moto is, “start with the swimmer’s body position and make adjustments to help the swimmer move through the water with the as little resistance as possible, taking advantage of the body’s natural propulsion. It’s ergonomic swimming!”

Testimonials

LesleeA shoulder injury was keeping me out of the pool, But after a few private lessons with Laurie, I was able to get back to doing a sport I love. She re-taught me how to swim. Now I am far more aware of my strokes, my body position, my breathing. I’m a more efficient swimmer and the pain in my shoulder has never returned. She’s a lifesaver.
